FAQ¶
Do I need to install anything?¶
No. Star Org Labs runs in your browser and in Discord. Members never install anything; someone with permission to add a bot to your server adds it once.
What does it cost?¶
Star Org Labs is free to add and free to run your org on. Supporting the project through Patreon is patronage, not a paywall — the cluster costs the same whether you're on it or not.
The commitment we hold ourselves to: nothing that stops you running operations, coordinating your members, or reading your own data gets sold. What support does buy is a longer data-retention window, recognition (a supporters wall, a profile badge), polish on your public org page, and a vote on what gets built next.
Exactly two things scale with supporter tier, and neither is a feature:
| Tier-scaled | What it means |
|---|---|
| Data retention | How long detailed history is kept — 30 days at the free tier, longer with support |
| Boost slots | How many servers you can sponsor at once |
The public org page, contract scanning, fleet mates and the event and template counts all used to be tier-gated. None of them are now. The public org page is currently early access (off for every org until enabled per server) — that is a rollout switch, not a price.
/boosts shows the slots you have; /guild boost puts one behind this server, and
/guild unboost takes it back so you can support somewhere else.
Do I have to link my RSI account?¶
Only if your org asks you to. /rsi verify <handle> links and verifies your Star Citizen
handle so your org knows who you are in the 'verse — and it lets the bot sync your org roles
from your RSI org page. You can link more than one handle (a main and an alt), set which is
your main, and unlink any of them:
/rsi list
/rsi set_main <handle>
/rsi unlink <handle>
Those work in a DM with the bot as well as in a server — they only ever touch your own account.
Why are event times wrong for me?¶
Set your timezone: /timezone America/New_York. Event times, reminders and availability
polls all render in your own zone once you have.
A command doesn't show up / says my rank doesn't have access¶
Three possible reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The module is off for your server — e.g. mining commands need Mining Tools enabled.
- You're not an officer or admin, and it's an organizer command.
- Your server uses Advanced permissions and your rank hasn't been granted that module.
In Discord, a member whose rank lacks a module still sees the command — running it just answers privately that their rank doesn't have access. See Roles & Permissions, and ask your leadership.
The bot isn't posting events¶
Check that your events channel is configured (/settings view) and that the bot can actually
post there. /permission checks whether the bot has everything it needs in your server and
tells you what's missing.
Can I use this across several orgs?¶
Yes. Your account, hangar and profile are yours and follow you between servers; each org has its own roster, settings, ranks and data. Your Member Homepage aggregates events from all of them.
Orgs that fly together can also form an alliance and share ops and threat intel — see Org Command.
Who can see my ships?¶
You decide, per org, from the privacy panel on your Personal Hangar — everyone in the org, officers and admins only, or nobody. There's a global switch that hides your hangar everywhere, and you can hide individual ships. Details in Fleet & Hangar.
We cancelled an event by mistake¶
It isn't gone. Cancelling is reversible: the event, its signups and its attendance all survive, and you can restore it from the web app. See Events & Ops.
Is my event feedback really anonymous?¶
Yes. Feedback rows carry no reference to who submitted them, and timestamps are recorded to the day rather than the second, so a comment can't be matched back to a person. Officers see the aggregate — average rating, count, and the comments.
Something's broken, or I have an idea¶
Come and say so in the Star Org Labs community. It's a young product and the fastest way to get something fixed is to tell us it's broken.
